Media release: The New Zealand Initiative releases three-year research plan
The New Zealand Initiative has released its new research plan for 2017 through to 2020.
The aim is the same as our previous research plans – to shape the policy agenda and tackle the big issues facing our country. Our team will continue to undertake in-depth research into what we see as the country’s biggest issues. These include housing, local government and education.
The Initiative will also branch out into new areas of research focusing on healthcare, infrastructure and freshwater management. We believe we can bring new and innovative policy solutions to these debates.
“This research plan reflects the policy issues we believe will matter most to everyday New Zealanders over the coming three years,” says Dr Oliver Hartwich, Executive Director of The New Zealand Initiative.
“Split into three focus areas – Developing New Zealand, Educating New Zealand and Better Opportunities for Better Living – this gives us the flexibility to adjust our research if the 2017 election, or other events, take our country in a different direction.”
As we have done this year, the end of this research plan will culminate with Manifesto 2020. This publication will pull together and summarise the policy recommendations we have made ahead of the 2020 election.
At the Initiative, we care about creating a better New Zealand for all New Zealanders. It is our hope that we can produce research that contributes to a more informed and constructive policy debate across the country.
